Blast: Revelry by Kandi Steiner

Revelry, an all-new standalone from Kandi Steiner is available now!!!

Revelry Cover_FINAL.png
From the bestselling author of Weightless and A Love Letter to Whiskey
Wren Ballard is trying to find herself.
She never expected to be divorced at twenty-seven, but now that the court date has passed, it’s official. The paperwork is final. Her feelings on it aren’t.
Spending the summer in a small mountain town outside Seattle is exactly what she needs. The peaceful scenery is a given, the cat with the croaky meow is a surprise, but the real kicker? A broody neighbor with nice arms, a strange reputation, and absolutely no interest in her.
Anderson Black is perfectly fine being lost.
He doesn’t care about the town’s new resident — he’s too busy fighting his own demons. But when he’s brought face to face with Wren, he can see her still-fresh wounds from a mile away. What he doesn’t see coming is his need to know who put them there — or his desperation to mend them.
Sometimes getting lost is the way to find yourself. Sometimes healing only adds a new scar. And sometimes the last place you expected to be is exactly where you find home.

About the Author:

KandiSteinerAuthorPicKandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer. Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies). When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.

Cover Reveal: Somebody Else's Sky by Jessica Hawkins

Photographer: Perrywinkle Photography
Cover Design © R.B.A. Designs
Cover Model: Chase Williams
Coming Monday, May 22nd: Somebody Else's Sky, book 2 in the Something in the Way Series...
If I closed my eyes, I could still see them—all blonde sunshine, ocean-blue eyes, and long limbs. The glint of Lake’s gold bracelet. Pink cotton candy on Tiffany’s tongue. My scenery may have changed from heaven to hell, but some things never would: my struggle to do right by both sisters. To let Lake soar. To lift Tiffany up. The sacrifices I made for them, I made willingly.

A better man would’ve walked away by now, but I never claimed to be any good. I only promised myself I’d keep enough distance. If I’d learned one thing from my past, it was that love came in different forms. You could love passionately, hurt deep, die young. Or you could provide the kind of firm, steady support someone else could lean on.
Lake was everything I wanted, and nothing I could ever have. I was nobody before I knew her and a criminal after. The way to love her was to let her shine—even if it would be for somebody else.

Review: Trust The Focus by Megan Erickson

Trust the Focus (In Focus #1)
Cover Source: GoodReads.com
Title: Trust The Focus
Author: Megan Erickson
Series: In Focus #1
Version Reviewed: ARC, eBook
Website: www.meganerickson.org
I received this book for free by the publishers in exchange for an honest review via NetGalley.

GoodReads Synopsis:
With his college graduation gown expertly pitched into the trash, Justin Akron is ready for the road trip he planned with his best friend Landry— and ready for one last summer of escape from his mother’s controlling grip. Climbing into the Winnebago his father left him, they set out across America in search of the sites his father had captured through the lens of his Nikon.
As an aspiring photographer, Justin can think of no better way to honor his father’s memory than to scatter his ashes at the sites he held sacred. And there’s no one Justin would rather share the experience with more than Landry.
But Justin knows he can’t escape forever. Eventually he’ll have to return home and join his mother’s Senate campaign. Nor can he escape the truth of who he is, and the fact that he’s in love with his out-and-proud travel companion.
Admitting what he wants could hurt his mother’s conservative political career. But with every click of his shutter and every sprinkle of ash, Justin can’t resist Landry’s pull. And when the truth comes into focus, neither is prepared for the secrets the other is hiding.
Review:
I jumped straight into this book with super high hopes. It sounded absolutely amazing and definitely like something that I would be into and love reading.  I'm ashamed to admit that, even though it was a review book, it took me forever to finish Trust The Focus.

I'm a lover of photography and m/m romances and good road trip books, especially if there's an emotional tie to them. This book definitely had all of those features but I can't say that I was insanely impressed by it. The story itself was really good, the idea of what they were doing and why they were doing it was amazing. But I honestly felt like it was executed very well. The characters, which started off really strong and defined, seemed to fall flat once the story really started unfolding and I felt like everything became a bit too cliche. While I'm normally a sucker for a story about a person that is coming into their sexuality and finally understanding an admitting to themselves how they feel, I didn't feel any connection to Justin. I loved his background and his story but his character just seemed.... boring? He was even slightly annoying to me and the constant back and forth between him and Landry just didn't do anything for me.

While I can't say that I 100% disliked the book (it did have some decent parts) I was overall disappointed with the writing and feel like everything just fell a little flat.

Review: #FinishLine by Cambria Hebert

#FinishLine (GearShark, #5)
Cover Source: GoodReads.com
Title: #FinishLine
Series: GearShark #5
Author: Cambria Hebert
Version Reviewed: Finished, eBook

I received this book as a gift from a friend.

GoodReads Synopsis:
Every race has a finish line.
Where you go after you cross it is what matters most.
And sometimes, that’s the most intriguing.
Here at GearShark, we’ve featured lots of drivers.
All of them are well acquainted with the finish line.
And as race fans, we’re well acquainted with cheering as they cross it.
What we aren’t privy to is riding shotgun, seeing where they drive once the race is over.
Our interviews barely scratch the surface,
offering just a glimpse of the men and women behind the wheel.
The discovery of vanished Motocross sensation Jayson Hamilton,
who has been right under our noses for years, proves secrets abound.
It’s time to dig deep. Look beyond the racetrack at the drivers who continue to pique our interest. In addition to scoring an exclusive, all-access interview with the elusive Jayson Hamilton (his first and only since the death of his fellow racer and partner Matt Lewis),
we’ve caught up with some of our most popular featured men and women in the racing world.
Where are they now?
Who are they now?
What do these hot commodities do when they escape the spotlight?
Rumors of weddings, babies, and new tattoos swirl through the media on a weekly basis.
And though we’re headlining the hashtag #Finishline, we’re far from finished.
In fact, we’re just getting started.
This newest issue of GearShark is jam packed with everything you’ve been dying to know…
and it just might be our biggest page-turner yet.
Review:
Man, oh man I will never get tired of these books. Cambria kind of surprised everyone with this book. #Blur hadn't been out for too long when she did a surprise reveal for the cover and blurb for #FinishLine. I think all of her readers were ecstatic to see the series continue for one more book. I'm pretty sure that 99% of us are not ready for this series to end and wish she would continue writing more GearShark books. In relation, the end of GearShark, also means the final end to the Hashtag series, the original series that sparked this series. Although we have a lot of new characters that we've fallen in love with, most of the characters in GearShark were introduced in the Hashtag series. Saying goodbye to GearShark also means saying a final goodbye to Hashtag (unless Cambria decides to surprise us again in the future ;) ).

With all that said, this book was amazing. I honestly loved it even more than I expected to (which was a lot) and couldn't stop reading it once I started.  With being nine months pregnant and a lot of other life crap thrown in the mix, it took me forever to start #FinishLine, something that I'm not happy about because I love these books and love to devour them immediately, and I definitely did once I finally got a chance to begin.

I never thought that the wedding bells would be happening for these two characters and especially not so soon. I was holding out hope for Trent and Drew, but only because I love those two so much and honestly miss them like crazy. Once I have paperbacks of the Hashtag and GearShark series, I definitely plan on doing a reread. Even though it wasn't the two boys I wanted to say I do, I'm still sooooo happy and excited that Cambria had two of her male characters get married. We've seen so many hetero couples exchange vows and it was so exciting and satisfying to see two of the characters we loved most tie the knot.

I really couldn't get enough of this book. It's so full of romance and sexiness and just all around tug-on-your-heartstrings goodness that it's impossible to put down. I'm sad to see the books come to an end, but they definitely ended on a high note and  I'm more in love than I ever have been with Cambria's words and characters.

Excerpt:

I had just grabbed my oversized hat and slipped my sunglasses on when I spotted Anderson walking up the drive with a large trash bag slung over his shoulder. He wore a simple, black V-neck and distressed jeans, an outfit way too dark and hot for the heat. A light sheen of sweat gathered on his neck as he made his way toward my cabin, his eyes hidden behind all-black sunglasses. "Change your mind?" I asked, not even fighting the grin on my face as I walked outside and leaned against the banister. Anderson squinted up at me, his boots heavy as they hit each stair. "About?" "Tubing?" I asked. That was why he was here, right? "Oh." He shook his head as he hit the top stair, shrugging the bag off his shoulders to hold it by the neck in one fist. "No, I have somewhere to be..." His voice trailed off, and even through the tinted shades of his glasses I felt his eyes on my chest. I'd strapped on my favorite boho print bathing suit and paired it with a dainty gold chain that wrapped around my neck once before dipping between my chest and crossing over my ribs. He sniffed, holding the bag out toward me. "I just came to drop these off. My clothes. Well, the ones that could probably use a little TLC." My eyes lit up and I reached for the bag, but Anderson snatched it back, brows shooting up into his forehead. "No frills, Wren." I threw my hands up in surrender. "I promise." He smirked, just slightly, and handed the bag over, tucking his hands in his front pockets. "Are you sure you don't want to come?" I asked, peering into the bag at my project before setting it just inside the cabin and locking the door behind me. "I can't," he said, lips pressed together. He was tense, the muscles on his forearms tight as he glanced around at pretty much everything but me. I opened my mouth to ask why but was cut off by the sound of a truck flying into my drive, tires sliding against the gravel. Tucker was in the driver's seat with Davie in the passenger. Sarah and Yvette sat in the back, laughing with their hands up as the truck skidded to a stop. They were both sprawled out on a pile of tubes, wearing bathing suit tops and tiny shorts. All of their faces froze when they saw Anderson. "Hey, you ready, Wren?" Tucker asked warily, his eyes moving from where Anderson stood in front of me, to me, and back again. "Yeah, one sec!" I called back. I turned to Anderson, but his eyes were hard on Tucker, jaw ticking under his skin. When he faced me once more, an anchor fell from my throat into the pit of my stomach, immobilizing me completely. Because even though I 'd tried to convince myself I was wrong, I recognized the look in his eyes. Possession. And when his nose flared and he took one big step toward me, our chests brushing, his hand reaching out to rest almost imperceptibly on my hip, the anchor in my stomach exploded into flames, burning a desire so fierce I inhaled a toxic breath and didn't let it go. "Be careful, okay?" His eyes locked on mine just before he leaned in and swiftly kissed my cheek. He turned on his heel and jogged down the stairs and past the truck. Sarah called his name, but he didn't acknowledge her, just kept his gaze forward until he'd disappeared from view. And then everyone looked at me. Available Now-01

Review: The Reptile Room by Lemony Snicket

The Reptile Room (A Series of Unfortunate Events, #2)
Cover Source: GoodReads.com
Title: The Reptile Room
Series: A Series of Unfortunate Events #2
Author: Lemony Snicket
Version Reviewed: Finished, Hardback.
Website: www.lemonysnicket.com
I purchased this book myself.

GoodReads Synopsis:
Dear Reader,
If you have picked up this book with the hope of finding a simple and cheery tale, I'm afraid you have picked up the wrong book altogether. The story may seem cheery at first, when the Baudelaire children spend time in the company of some interesting reptiles and a giddy uncle, but don't be fooled. If you know anything at all about the unlucky Baudelaire children, you already know that even pleasant events lead down the same road to misery.
In fact, within the pages you now hold in your hands, the three siblings endure a car accident, a terrible odor, a deadly serpent, a long knife, a large brass reading lamp, and the appearance of a person they'd hoped never to see again.
I am bound to record these tragic events, but you are free to put this book back on the shelf and seek something lighter.
With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket
Review:
I'm so excited to continue on with this series! My daughter and I are seriously enjoying reading it at bedtime and we can't get enough.  She has become obsessed with Count Olaf since the Netflix series came out and I'm really glad that I had the first couple of books on hand so that we could begin reading them. I have to purchase the third book and she was deeply unhappy with me that I didn't already have it once we finished The Reptile Room.

Overall, this book is great. It's full of silly mystery and absurd criminal activity just like the first book. The amount of ridiculousness and sheer terror brought to the Baudelaire lives by Count Olaf is insane and great to read. Just like the first book, I still love that Lemony Snicket included descriptions and explanations behind some of the bigger words and phrases in the book and perfectly blended them into the stories. It's a great way to broaden the vocabulary of the children reading without seeming like they're being taught. As a mother, I cannot express my gratitude for this enough.

After watching the movie and the show, it's really interesting to see how well they follow along with the stories brought forth in each book (and so far, they've kept it REALLY close!) and the different interpretations of the characters, especially Uncle Monty. I love that the children, even for a short amount of time, got to experience a good, wholesome, character that meant them no harm.

Great continuation of the series and I can't wait to read more!

Rating: 3 Stars.

Why Your Man Deserves Your Magic Makeover Touch

Us women get to change our image every season. Not all of us feel the need to, but the option’s there if we desire. Yet, while you’re updating your wardrobe, your man wears the same clothes, for years. It doesn’t seem fair, does it? Though, it’s not all violins. Most men are happy to wear clothes until they fall apart. Then, they buy something as close to what they had as possible. But, every now and again, your man may feel the need to update his look. It’s not just us women who like to freshen things up. When he does, the chances are that he’ll come to you for help. That’s why it’s important you know everything you need for a man wardrobe makeover!

WHAT IMAGE IS HE AIMING FOR?
Your man needs to decide what image he’s aiming for. Turning to fashion icons can always help you when deciding. It’s also worth having an idea of the general options available to him. It may be that he wants to become a suited and booted business type. Or, maybe the hipster image appeals to him. Don’t worry; you can convince him against the ‘man bun’ later down the line! For now, having a general image idea is important. You won’t be able to start shopping without one. This will help the two of you gain some ideas of what you need to look out for.

GET RECOMMENDATIONS

Men and women tend to shop in different ways. While women are happy to hit the town and see what they find, most men like an idea of where they’re going. Chances are that you don’t know much about men’s shops. Most stores have a man and woman section, but it’s not as easy as heading to the men department of your favorite store. You and your man are different people, and like different things. Talk to some friends and see where their men shop. Search online for the best men’s fashion shops near you. Then, develop a plan of action. Keep your man engaged by knowing which stores you’re visiting, and in which order.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT
We all know that it’s important to take risks when trying a new image. Make sure your man knows this. You can never know what looks good until you try it. He may have chosen an image he would like to imitate, but there’s no reason he can’t make it his own. Encourage him to take the plunge. This may be as simple as trying a color he’s never worn before, to getting earrings like the ones on this website. No matter how extreme the risks, the results may be what makes the image work for him.

If your man doesn’t often change his look, it’s important to make the most of this opportunity. Help him become the man he’s always wanted to be. But, remember that this is about what he wants. Don’t let your opinions cloud his judgment!
