GoodReads Synopsis:
Don’t get caught in the surge.
Through a bullet hole in a wall, I watch a man bleed to death.
Those responsible think their crime died with the victim, until I identify them.
What’s a girl to do when she’s being hunted by murderers
witness protection can’t even stop?
Run.
My only refuge is a place I vowed to never go again.
When it’s do or die, an eight-year-old heartache suddenly seems trivial.
Besides, he won’t be there anyway.
But he is.
Turns out my old pain feels brand new the second his eyes meet mine.
I can’t leave. I can’t stay.
This snowy town that’s supposed to be my shelter
suddenly exposes me more than before.
With no one else to lean on, Liam becomes my lifeline.
Now we’re both running for our lives,
trying not to get swept away.
Review:
When I learned that Cambria Hebert was coming out with a new book called Avalanche, I was super excited. I'm not a huge fan of snow, I never have been, but, for whatever the reason, the idea of her creating a book centered around characters at a ski resort had me really giddy.  From the very beginning the idea of these characters and their setting drew me in. As I was reading it was also really neat to learn that it was set in Colorado, a place that my husband is obsessed with and where we plan to eventually end up.

I really hoped, before going in, that I was going to enjoy this story and the characters. I've already expressed my love of the name and setting but that was nothing compared to how I felt about the cover. I loved the clean simplicity of it and the dog. I've always been a cat person but, for some reason, I feel myself slowly becoming a dog person and I just wanna snuggle that doggo up.

When I actually got the chance to dig into the story, I fell in love almost immediately. There's just something about BearPaw Resort that has my attention and won't let it go. I even purchased a sticker of the BearPaw logo so that I could put it on my car! :P

Avalanche, right off the bat, is full of crime and action and suspense. I love Cambria's stories because she does so well with suspenseful romance and this one definitely didn't disappoint. I've never been huge into mobster stories but Bellamy's situation sold me on this book. Second chance romance is also a new trope for this author and it was nice to see her venture into new territory.

As much love as I have for this book, there were also a few things that I wasn't crazy about. So let's start with the characters. I did feel at times that Liam was a little overbearing. I know the overprotective, she's mine mentality has been wildly popular in the last few years and I've always been a sucker for it. But I do think that I'm starting to grow out of that characteristic in fictional males and found myself, a few times, wishing that Liam would take a chill pill.

I think my biggest issue with the book overall, was editing. It's, unfortunately, something that sticks out to me hardcore in books. Misspelled words and typos always catch my eye when reading other people's writing (why can't it stick out when I read my own writing?? lol) and this book did have quite a few. I feel like if editing was slowed down slightly and a few extra minutes or eyes were added, these things would be an easy catch. Considering I love Cambria's characters and stories, this is an easy thing for me to ignore, but I do believe there should be much less typos and misspelled words in a finished novel.

I don't want to leave a negative note, however. Despite those couple of issues, Avalanche really is a great story and I have no doubts that you will fall in love with Bellamy and Liam.

Rating: 4 Stars.
