Title: Toad
Author: Cambria Hebert
Series: Public Enemy #2
Version Reviewed: Finished, eBook
Website: www.cambriahebert.com
I read this book through Kindle Unlimited.

GoodReads Synopsis:
Aerie Boone is a toad.
At least according to every news outlet and online hater imaginable.
Accusations of lip-syncing.
Rumors of being dropped by my label.
Reports of celebrity feuds and rivalries.
And then there’s my personal favorite…
The pending annulment of a marriage I can’t even remember agreeing to.
When you’re the sweetheart of country music, being a headline is a given.
Living the headline is more of an uninvited surprise.
I’m barely recognized for the massive success I’ve had.
Now I’m famous because people love to hate me.
I’m a public enemy, but no one knows my side of the story.
I’m beginning to think it doesn’t even matter.
I’m burned out, hurting, and everyone thinks I have warts. Ew.
Becoming a shut-in is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Too bad my label has other ideas.
They send me a solution…
In the form of a red-haired, green-eyed man who wears sarcasm like armor.
I don’t want a stranger in my house.
I don’t want Nate.
All I want is to go back to a time when I wasn’t a toad.
When I was country music’s princess.
But going back is impossible.
Moving forward will change everything.
 Review:
I get extremely excited anytime Cambria Hebert puts out something new and this series is no exception. This woman is a beast at releasing books every other month (sometimes EVERY month). I don't understand how she does it. And each and every one of them is a quality story that keeps you hanging on. Toad is absolutely no different.

I wasn't sure what to expect from her new series but I honestly think they're great. I guess it's the mysterious aspect of celebrities that I find appealing, the secret personality behind the public face. I'm a sucker for reality shows and celebrity gossip so I love that the Public Enemy standalones are centered around celebrities.

I really enjoyed Butterfly and Nate was a hilarious, endearing side character that was easy to love. I was really happy when I learned that Toad was going to be his story.  He totally went from goofy side character to red headed sex machine without changing even one thing about himself and I couldn't get enough. His mix of super sweet and protective mixed with goofy, immature behavior made him super realistic and easy to fall for. There were even times when he reminded me of my husband who is just a huge kid at heart.

Aerie Boone, on the other hand, was an extremely serious character with more on her plate than she could handle. She was in a terrible situation that she needed out of and Nate was the perfect Knight In Shining Armor to her Damsel In Distress. Her seriousness equaled well to his silliness and, again, kind of reminded me of my husband and myself. The differing personalities balanced each other out and made for a great, stable couple. The heat between them didn't hurt either.

Just like all of Cambria's other romantic suspense novels, Toad was a great read full of  twists and turns and sexy, steamy moments that will melt your heart.

Definitely recommend to fans of romantic suspense or celebrity fiction.

  1. I am always excited when I learn of a new Cambria Hebert story but hands down Toad was the funniest I have read like ever. And yes the celebrity aspect is fun as well because no matter what they are just human beings as well.

  2. Glad you enjoyed this. I ADORED the hashtag series, but I haven't picked up this series. I am not a fan of celebrities but I do love romantic suspense!
