Cover Reveal & Giveaway: The Connelly Boys by Lily Velez

The Connelly Boys
Lily Velez
(Celtic Witches, #1)
Publication date: September 13th 2018
Genres: Urban Fantasy, Young Adult
The Connelly boys are practically royalty at St. Andrew’s Prep. Popular, wealthy, and devastatingly beautiful, the four brothers have long cast a spell over their classmates and over the sleepy seaport town of Rosalyn Bay, Ireland.
There’s only one problem: they’re also cursed.
…Or so the rumors say.
Seventeen-year-old newcomer Scarlet Monroe has never been one for rumors, but when she inadvertently banishes a demon while trying to help eldest brother Jack Connelly, the most breathtaking of the boys and the one to whom she feels inexplicably drawn, she quickly discovers there may be more to the local superstitions and folklore than she originally thought.
Before long, she’s pulled into a dark and mysterious world filled with ancient magic, powerful spells, kidnapped souls, and deadly enemies. But none of it compares to discovering the truth of who she really is…or what she’ll have to become to defeat a rising evil older than humankind itself before she loses everyone she loves—that is, of course, if she can survive the world of the Connellys long enough.
Don’t miss this first installment in the new dark fantasy series by Lily Velez, which features Irish folklore, Celtic mythology, mystery and light romance, and an engrossing world of witches and magic that will keep you reading long into the night!

Review: Darker by EL James

Darker (Fifty Shades as Told by Christian, #2)
Cover Source: GoodReads
Title: Darker
Author: EL James
Series: Fifty Shades As Told By Christian #2
Version Reviewed: Finished Paperback
Website: www.eljamesauthor.com
I purchased this book myself.

GoodReads Synopsis:
E L James revisits the world of Fifty Shades with a deeper and darker take on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the globe.
Their scorching, sensual affair ended in heartbreak and recrimination, but Christian Grey cannot get Anastasia Steele out of his mind, or his blood. Determined to win her back, he tries to suppress his darkest desires and his need for complete control, and to love Ana on her own terms.
But the horrors of his childhood still haunt him, and Ana’s scheming boss, Jack Hyde, clearly wants her for himself. Can Christian’s confidant and therapist, Dr. Flynn, help him face down his demons? Or will the possessiveness of Elena, his seducer, and the deranged devotion of Leila, his former submissive, drag Christian down into the past?
And if Christian does win Ana back, can a man so dark and damaged ever hope to keep her?
Review:
This is a series that I begged for as I was reading the original. There were so many things in the Fifty Shades books that left me curious and wondering what the hell was going on inside Christian's mind. There were specific scenes that I needed to know from his point of view. It's safe to say that I was jumping for joy when I learned that Grey was going to be a thing and even happier when I learned that the series was going to continue with Darker, as my favorite scene of the entire series is in Fifty Shades Darker.

I really enjoyed reading this book and learning the true depths of Christian's issues with his past. What makes these books so great is reading along as Christian figures out how to deal with his past and separate himself from the issues engraved in him from such a young age. Reading the story from his point of view brings such a new light to his character and his relationship with Ana and it just makes their story so much better.

I couldn't get enough of this book and I can't wait to finish the series. I honestly think these books are better than the original.

Veiled Waters
H.G. Lynch
(Unfortunate Blood, #5)
Publication date: July 24th 2018
Genres: Paranormal, Romance, Young Adult
They’ve faced ghosts, fought witches, and escaped the clutches of a lunatic cult…but this may be their most difficult enemy yet.

And to top it off? Something is drowning students in the local lake.

Previous books in the series:
EXCERPT:
“REID!”
A sudden, familiar voice yelling his name from some great distance jerked him awake and he gasped. All he saw at first was endless, impenetrable blackness, but only for a second before his eyes adjusted and he was staring at the ceiling past Ricky’s concerned face. The younger boy’s eyes glowed blue-green in the darkness.
Slowly, Reid realized his heart was pounding on his ribs, he was gasping, and his hand was clenched tightly around Ricky’s wrist, so tightly he could feel it as a tiny bone snapped under his fingers. Ricky hissed in pain, but didn’t try to pull away, his mouth tight but his eyes gentle. With a shudder, Reid pulled his hand back to himself, and stared at Ricky with ghosts behind his eyes.
“Sorry,” he muttered apologetically, his voice hoarse. Had he been screaming in his sleep again? Most likely. No wonder Ricky had woken him. This was getting beyond ridiculous.
Ricky just nodded, rubbing his wrist as it healed swiftly and neatly. He was examining Reid carefully, kneeling on the floor by his bed. There was deep, serious worry in his face that Reid could read effortlessly in the dark. Not wanting to see it, Reid turned and glared at the useless dream-catcher on his wall. It hung there innocuously, the glass beads shining and the feathers still and pale against the dark wall.
“I guess I was right the first time; Feathers and beads do jack all to help nightmares,” he said shakily.
With a sigh, Ricky retreated back to his own bed and sat there, gazing evenly at Reid, who shifted uncomfortably. He noticed then that he was drenched in sweat and it was sending chills down his spine. His light hair clung to his forehead and ears, and his hands trembled on the mattress. He clutched the bed sheets to hide the shaking.
“They’re getting worse, aren’t they?” Ricky asked plainly, leaning forward to rest his elbows on his knees.
Not meeting his gaze, Reid nodded, running a hand through his messy, damp hair.
“There has to be something that would help. We could get you drugs, or Ember could make a potion I’m sure. We must have a recipe in one of the grimoires.Ember would have the power—”
“No,” Reid protested bluntly. The thought of Ricky going to Ember and asking her to make a sleeping potion or elixir to banish nightmares…her surprise and confusion, her hurt when Ricky explained what it was for…No.
Ricky started, frowning. “But why? It’s not like it’d put her out to do it. I’m sure she’d do anything to help you.” he insisted.
Reid just turned away, looked out the window as he got to his feet. He put his back to Ricky as he yanked his damp t-shirt over his head and tossed it onto his bed.
“Unless…” Ricky said slowly, and Reid could practically hear the gears turning in the boy’s head. “Unless she doesn’t know about this yet…”

Excerpt & Giveaway: The Sexpert by JA Huss & Johnathan McClain

The Sexpert
JA Huss & Johnathan McClain
Publication date: July 24th 2018
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Romance
A new standalone romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author, JA Huss, and Actor/Screenwriter, Johnathan McClain.
EDEN
I’m just a simple girl who likes dessert. And sexy men. And social media. So starting an anonymous video channel called The Sexpert as a side hustle to make up for my low-paying marketing job at Le Man Magazine seemed like a perfectly sensible career decision. Until we went viral, my boss accused my anonymous personality of stealing his idea, and now my super sexy new boyfriend, Andrew, is out to get me.
Her. Me. Whatever.
ANDREW
I don’t want it to be her. I do not want this… sweet, delicious, shy social media nerd working at my best friend’s magazine to be the face behind those perky cupcakes on the Sexpert channel. I don’t want it to be her… because I like her. A lot. She’s funny, and quirky, and smart, and creative… and… I really, really like her. It just can’t be her.
But it is.
And now I have to choose.
My best friend?
Or… The Sexpert?
EXCERPT:
Me: bitch we got problems pierce is sexpert
I didn’t mean it to come out like that but I can’t be bothered with punctuation right now. And anyway, two seconds later my phone buzzes an incoming call from Zoey. I tab accept and whisper, “I’m gonna get fired today.”
“What the hell are you talking about? What’s that mean? Pierce is Sexpert?”
“I stole his idea and then he found out and I didn’t mean to do it and now the cute freeway guy is on the case and he’s gonna out me and get me fired! I’m fucked!” I whisper-scream that last part into the phone while I hold it at arm’s length.
“Eden!” Zoey snaps. “Calm the fuck down and explain! I didn’t understand any of that.”
But then the stairwell door opens on fifty and two girls—Sara from accounting and Leslie from data entry—start walking up to fifty-one towards me.
“Hey, girls!” I wave and smile at them, trying to act normal.
“Hey, Eden!” they chime back together. “Happy Monday!” they say.
“Happy Monday,” I say back.
Now I get it. I totally get why people hate it when I say that.
When they disappear onto fifty-one I go back to the phone. “How… when… Zoey! I think I might’ve stolen this idea from Pierce!”
“Don’t be ridiculous. I was there when you came up with it. Remember? It was Valentine’s Day two years ago and I was pregnant, and sad, and poor because business was bad and you said, ‘We should be strippers.’ And then I said, ‘I can’t be a stripper because I’m fat.’ And you said, ‘You’re not fat, you’re beautiful.’ And then I said, ‘We need a stupid YouTube series like that dumbass seventeen-year-old who got famous on Ellen! after she made stop-motion movies of Barbie and Ken having sex.’ And you said, ‘We should totally make a ridiculous sex advice channel and we should call ourselves the Sexperts!’ Remember all that?”
That was how it went down. “I was drunk though, remember? That asshole Matthew dumped me after I put out and I was pissed off. So maybe I accidentally heard Pierce say something about the Sexpert and then I only thought it was my idea?”
“That’s stupid. Don’t be stupid, Eden. You’re not stupid. You came up with the name! I was there!”
“Yeah, but we’ve been using Voice Lift to disguise my voice and the goddamned Voice Lift inventor is the cute freeway guy and now Myrtle says he’s on the case and he’s gonna figure out who I am!”
“Ridiculous!” Zoey yells. “No one is gonna find out who you are, Eden. We don’t even show your face.”
True.
I take a deep breath. Maybe I’m just overreacting?

Excerpt & Giveaway: Reclaimed By The Pack by Dizzy Hooper

Reclaimed By The Pack
Dizzy Hooper
Publication date: July 19th 2018
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance
When my father cast me out of our pack, I left everything and everyone I ever loved behind. Lucky for me, I was taken in by three red hot shifter males. They’ve made me their mate, and now I’m pregnant with their babies.
My mates see to my every need, pampering me and loving me. They make sure I never want for anything—especially in the bedroom. I should be blissfully happy.
So why can’t I shake the feeling that something is missing?
With our family ready to grow, it’s time to trust these males with my grief as well as my bliss. At their insistence, we journey back to my ancestral home to confront my father.
But his cruel new mate is more formidable of an enemy than I anticipated. She’s poisoned my father against me, and she’ll stop at nothing to cement her position at his side.
When she threatens everything I hold dear, I hit a breaking point. My mates and I didn’t come here for a fight, but we won’t hesitate to finish one.
With these protective males at my side and my family on the line, I make a desperate gamble to reclaim my history, my pack…and my life.
EXCERPT:
“Jessica…” Grady’s hand intertwining with mine brings me back to the here and now.
I blink, bringing my vision into focus. My cheeks are damp and my heart sore. I swab roughly at my eyes and shake my head. Colt is staring at me in concern, and Landen has shifted to look at me, too.
“I’m fine,” I lie.
Colt frowns. “Jess—”
“I’m fine. Just. Hormonal.” It’s my go-to excuse, and I hate that I have to keep using it.
I hate feeling like this.
These final few weeks of my pregnancy should be filled with happiness and excitement—and they are. But pangs of melancholy keep hitting me, stealing my joy and reminding me of all I’ve lost.
I feel like there’s a hole inside me I can’t remember how to fill. There’s something missing, and it doesn’t matter how many times I sweep this sense of absence under the rug.
It returns, again and again. Tonight it’s a scene in a movie, yesterday it was a picture in a freaking ad. Who knows what tomorrow’s crying jag will be.
Grady squeezes my hand, and my eyes sting.
He can see through my misdirections. He can tell that I’m hurting, and he only wants to help. Landen and Colt echo that same lost, helpless worry.
My ribs go tight as I glance between them.
I know that I should share my feelings with my mates, but the source of my unhappiness only makes it harder to confess.
We said it when we mated: our pasts are behind us. Our futures lie ahead.
I don’t want my history to be weighing me down. I don’t want them to ever for a moment think their love isn’t enough.
Their love is everything.
That they’re doubting it for the shortest fraction of a second is too much.
“Come here,” I say, pulling Grady closer.
Not for the first time, I curse my current lack of mobility. Grady doesn’t let me struggle, though. He shifts, helping me to sit up straighter. Leaning in, he cups my face and searches my gaze.
I shut my eyes and tug him down. When our lips meet, the kiss tastes like all the quiet secrets kept between us. His devotion and his concern mix and mingle with my desperate instinct to protect him from these pangs of loss.
If I can just get through these last few weeks, it’ll all be fine. Once we have these babies in our arms, none of my wistfulness will matter. We’ll be a family, a pack. What I’ve left behind won’t haunt me the way it does right now.
I swear to God, I’d never use sex as a distraction. But the parts of me that want to deflect and change the subject are in perfect agreement with the parts of me that go hot and needy at my alpha’s probing kiss.
Opening for him, I run my fingers through his hair, then down his neck and over the muscles of his chest. I keep going, lower and lower, until I’m teasing at the waistband of his jeans.
“Jessica…” The way he says my name is half lust and half warning.
I shake my head. “Come on, please…”
This isn’t out of character. I’ve been insatiable these past few weeks. Late pregnancy is a time for back aches and constant trips to the bathroom.
But it’s also a time for shifters and their mates to bond, and what better way than by making love?

Review: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Fangirl
Cover Source: GoodReads
Title: Fangirl
Author: Rainbow Rowell
Narrators: Rebecca Lowman, Maxwell Caulfield
Version Reviewed: Finished Audiobook
Website: www.rainbowrowell.com
I borrowed this book from my local library.

GoodReads Synopsis:
Cath is a Simon Snow fan.
Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan...
But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.
Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.
Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.
Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words... And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.
For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?
Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?
And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?
Review:
I heard a lot about this book when it was making it's rounds in the book blogging community. As a huge Harry Potter fangirl and one that used to write Harry/Draco slash fanfiction, I knew that I had to read this book. Cath's personality was very similar to mine back in the day and that drew me in even more. I wanted to know more about her character and her writing.

When I began reading Fangirl, I was drawn in from the very first chapter. The transition to college for Cath was not an easy one and I think all of the struggles she dealt with in her social life and in school were very easy to relate to. It was nice to see a character that was very human in her flaws and didn't always try her hardest the things that were supposed to matter most. I think that's why I like Cath's character so much. I had a hard time in school for reasons very similar to hers (not the fanfiction relation but the procrastination and loss of interest in school) and I definitely felt a little bit of myself in her character.

The secondary characters in this book were also great to follow along with. Cath's twin sister was very real in her transition to new adulthood. She took the opposite path as her sister and found herself falling a little too far down the rabbit hole of the college social scene.

Levi and Reagan were fun characters that brought their own amazing qualities to the story as well. Levi was probably my favorite character in Fangirl. He was such a real, down-to-earth nice guy that was genuinely interested in Cath but still didn't always make the right choices. No one is perfect and I like that his character reflected that.

Cath's mom and dad were there own version of a dysfunctional family that is all but too common in the world today and I really enjoyed the inclusion of Baz and Simon and their whole world. The inclusion of the Simon Snow stories as well and writing from Cath's fanfiction was a great addition that helped the story in it's ebb and flow. Great decision on the author's part.

I definitely plan to read more by Rainbow Rowell and I can't wait to sink my teeth into Carry On. I am so flippin' happy she actually wrote Simon Snow books cause I am here for it. lol.

EXCERPT:
A servant tapped for entry. He approached Gryffnn. “The dragons from Dalcon have arrived,” he said instead of announcing dinner.
Damn and blast. This was typical Aideen, always doing the unexpected.
“I’ll meet them at the spaceport. Kaya and I will leave now.”
“Their ships have landed on the training field,” the servant said.
“What do you need us to do?” Ry asked.
“I need two guards on Ransom’s chamber. The visitors must not see him. I also need Hallam kept away from them. I don’t trust Aideen.”
“Mogens and I will take care of Hallam,” Camryn said. “Does he understand why he must avoid the Gwilym dragons?”
“Yes,” Gryffnn said tersely. “He understands, but can you reinforce that Lys is his sister and he mustn’t mention her either—to keep them both safe.”
“Nanu and I will watch over Ransom and free up your guard,” Ry said. “Anything else? Where are you housing them?”
“Decorum states I must have them here at the compound. I’ll decide on the exact arrangements once I see who has arrived. Kaya, with me.”
Gryffnn stalked from the communal room, his mind racing in a dozen directions at once. Kaya strode at his side and her silent solidarity shored up his fears. He refused to let Aideen and her clan get the better of him, and he’d protect his brother and their clan to his dying breath. His only regret—he and Kaya hadn’t cemented their bond yet.
“Aideen will scent we’re not mates,” he said.
Kaya winked. “Maybe not. She’ll take one whiff and avoid me.”
“I get a lungful now and then.” A burst of humor shot through him. “With luck the stench has transferred to me, and Aideen will keep her distance.”
Goddess, he wasn’t looking forward to this meeting.
“You’ve got this, Gryffnn,” Kaya said as they stalked outdoors and headed to the training field.
Gryffnn’s chest swelled, and he tugged Kaya to a halt.
“What?”
He hauled her into his arms and kissed her with all the desperation he’d felt when he’d thought Ransom wanted Kaya. He caught her gasp with his mouth and teased her lips with his tongue before he took the kiss deeper. Sweetness burst over him at Kaya’s acceptance of his rough and unrestrained ardor.
“Well,” a strident feminine voice declared. “A fine meeting to be sure. You’d rather dally with your doxy than greet us. With Ransom out of commission, I expected disarray, and I wasn’t wrong.”

She knows that when she leaves Woodvine, even her own mother may not remember her in the shifted reality that will be left behind. But she’s driven by something that eclipses everything else: her recovered memories. Now that she remembers James—she won’t stop searching until she finds him.
Where did the idea come from for Searching?
Searching is the second book in The Fading Series. Searching takes up immediately where Fading left off, just as Leath puts her foot down inside Judaculla.
What genre is Searching?
Young adult.
But – the entire series crosses genres. It’s a paranormal, dystopian, young adult romance mash-up. Searching is also a crossover, appealing to young adults and up.
Who would enjoy reading Searching?
Fans of Fading who are waiting to find out if it’s Victor or James.
And, anyone who has ever been in love with two people at the same time. J
Favorite lines from Searching:
  1. I wanted to touch him. So I did. (pg. 1)
  2. The first time I held hands with Victor Santana, it wasn’t romantic. Not at all. (pg. 3)
  3. Victor’s strong hand cradled mine, and he became my tether to reality. (pg. 3)
  4. His warm lips brushed against my ear as he whispered three little words. “I can wait.” (pg. 6)
  5. Name James Turner. Age 17. Parents Emancipated Minor. (pgs. 10-11)
  6. “I don’t usually get this close to a girl, unless I’m going to kiss her,” said the boy, giving me a playful grin. (pg. 23)
  7. When we were apart, it seemed as if all of eternity passed before I saw him again. (pg. 110)
  8. To one boy, I’d gladly give my heart. To the other, my life. (pg. 130)
  9. I wondered how long a person could live like this, so completely torn in half. (pg. 130)
  10. She could have any boy in the restaurant. Why was she falling all over mine? (pg. 147)
  11. But right now I had him. The boy of my dreams. (pg. 174)
  12. “I will never stop loving you,” he said. “Not even in death.” (pg. 268)
James is sort of a two-sides-to-one-coin kind of guy. Was it difficult writing his character?
Definitely, but so worth it!
*sighs*
He’s drop-dead gorgeous and funny, but he hovers over dark territory. It was a challenge writing him because I wanted my readers to see what Leath sees in James. In Searching, fans will see just how deep James’s feelings for Leath go.
And Leath’s other love interest, Victor, was it hard to write him?
Not a bit.
*sighs again*
Victor is the definition of the perfect guy. He’s good-looking, funny, confident and charismatic. Not to mention he has an exceptionally beautiful heart.
Who is your favorite character in Searching?
Ever continues to be my favorite character. She’s the girl you love to hate. I think we’re all hoping that in the end, she’ll do the right thing. The problem is we lose a faith in her each time she opens her mouth. As I continue writing the series, I’m currently working on book three and James is fast becoming a close second to Ever as my favorite character. I think readers will enjoy watching James’s growth from Fading to Searching to where I am now in writing the series.
Who designed the cover of Searching?
The talented Marya Heidel. Isn’t it stunning?!
How many books are in the Searching series? There will be at least 4 books in the series.

Spotlight & Giveaway: What Lies in Shadows by Siena Noble

What Lies in Shadows
Siena Noble
Publication date: July 20th 2018
Genres: Adult, Mystery, Romance, Suspense
Ten years ago, former San Francisco police detective Daniel Yun lost everything when he lost his beloved wife and partner, Christine, to the very serial killer they were hunting. Now a private investigator, Dan has done his best to move on with his life, burying himself in his work and being a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews. His weekends are occupied with a succession of boring blind dates and a long string of willing submissives, but the one woman who has managed to creep into his heart is the one woman he can’t allow himself to have: Heather, Christine’s best friend.
Since the brutal murder of her best friend, homicide detective Heather D’Angelo has dedicated her life to keeping the city safe from scum like Christine’s killer. Between her stressful job and the demands of being a divorced single mom, Heather has little time for romance, preferring the familiar company of Dan… and the occasional Saturday night at the local BDSM club. But no Dom can compare to the man whose touch first awakened her hidden desires years before: none other than Dan himself…
For nearly a decade, the man believed to be the San Francisco Slasher has been behind bars, until a vicious killing all too similar to Christine’s forces the police to reopen the case, and Dan to confront all the fury and pain he thought he’d buried long ago. When the trail of the Slasher and Dan’s latest case converge and lead straight to the city’s BDSM community, he and Heather find themselves working intimately together, bringing their long-suppressed passion to the surface. But as they fight feelings stronger than friendship, the body count continues to climb, and the Slasher isn’t the only threat they face. Only together can Dan and Heather overcome the demons that have haunted them for so long, especially since the killer may be far closer to them than they ever imagined…

Author Bio:
A proud Pittsburgh, PA area native, Siena Noble has explored and inhabited all kinds of fictional worlds through her writing since age ten. Although she’s always been a sucker for a good love story and possesses an incredibly dirty mind, she never imagined that her publishing debut would be erotic romance. What started as a silly short story idea quickly became something much bigger, a demanding Master of a manuscript whose every whim Siena submitted to.
When she’s not busy reading, writing, binge-watching Game of Thrones, or doing a million other important things, Siena enjoys traveling, archery, and getting lost in the woods (also known as “hiking”). She and her better half/writing buddy/sometimes Sir/sex muse live together in Pittsburgh. Their dream is to relocate to the middle of nowhere and build a castle capable of withstanding the impending zombie apocalypse.
